The sofapiano story

Founder German Learning Platform Sofapiano

From a virtual classroom to a learning platform

Hi, I am Matthias. I am the sofapiano founder and happy to tell you a little bit about the sofapiano story.

Discovering a More Natural Way to Teach German

As an online German teacher, I worked with students from different countries every day. They knew the grammar rules and had done plenty of exercises, but they often lacked confidence when speaking. The learning process was slow, dry, and not very intuitive. That’s why I started to change my teaching approach. Instead of endless theory, I began to focus more and more on translations from real-life situations. My students translated meaningful sentences between their native language and German – with a focus on comprehension and natural language. And I quickly noticed interesting changes: The students learned faster, remembered words more easily, and began speaking more intuitively. The translation method became the core of my teaching.

Building sofapiano from Real Classroom Experience

Over time, I developed my own tool for this – at first just for my students. But step by step, it evolved into a complete learning platform. Today, this platform is based not on theory, but on real-world classroom experiences. My goal is to give everyone the opportunity to learn German in a practical, intuitive, and truly effective way.
